In the news today I found some hillariously gross quotes from some of the people involved. Most of you have probably heard about the scandal with the Illnois governor surrounding Obama's open senate seat. The defying his party, the public, and common sense Blago appointed Roland Burris to the same seat that he put up for sale on the open market. Republicans have been adamantly against seating Burris. Democrats have been wishy-washy toward the subject(ie fence sitters).
Burris had this to say toward anyone that would hope to stand between him and being seated in the US Senate: "We are hoping and praying that they will not be able to deny what the Lord has ordained" He knows something I and everyone else doesn't, apparently God himself has chosen Burris as Obama's sucessor.
Of course Burris is black and since Obama is now out of Senate there are now people complaining that there are no black senators. Rep Bobby Rush of Illinois(black) had this to say, "he called the Senate "last bastion of plantation politics," and said blacks had been "excluded systematically for too long." Even though its been proven that a majority of americans are already willing to vote for a black person for higher office, its of course somehow the result of prejudice(presumably white) that keeps more blacks out of the senate. Its obviously not possible that there could be anything wrong with the single community appeal that many black politicians use. *sarcasm intented*
Harry Reid, Senate Majority leader had this to say about the appointment. "There is always room to negotiate" based on his past trial lawyer experience. Brings a different quote to mind, "You can not compromise with evil". Looks like Reid and the Senate Democrats keep compromising more and more every day.
Illinois Republicans are the only ones that are making any sort of sense here by demanding a special election for the seat.
