I think you misunderstood what I was implying. Only if one attributed massive institutional incompetence to the FBI, which is hardly likely in my opinion, could one avoid the conclusion that there is more likely malfeasance or malevolence behind the latest revelations regarding Ivins.
Dave comment: I found this article in The Star-Ledger on March 10, 2002. I am inclined to leave the incompetence door open.

Some scientists are incredulous that investigators waited until now to subpoena anthrax samples from laboratories.
From day one, the FBI's targets should have been the handful of military labs and contractors believed capable of "weaponizing" anthrax into the airy, potent powder that wafted from the letters, said Jonathan King of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
"You're talking about profoundly misleading the American public," said King, a molecular biologist. "It's like saying you've found a missile for a nuclear submarine and can't figure out where it's from."

I may have missed something regarding Ivins' employment, but I'm not sure why you seem to think that Muller is treating military people poorly. The lab where Ivins worked falls under the DoD, but I don't believe anywhere it has been said Ivins was in the military. It might be civil service, but not military. But I just don't know and haven't seen mention. Being a "former active-duty Marine" (never an "ex-Marine" ), I'm usually quite sensitive to accusations against active military members. Would you please clarify that for me?
Dave comment: My tunnel vision got the better of me. My apologies. Ivens was a civilian working at FT Detrick. And thanks for standing duty. Muller is not treating the Army poorly,
just maybe a civilian. However it does not sit well with me for Ivins to off himself before indictment. For a scientist to be an activist (in the worst way), just does not add up.
I admit stranger murders have happened....but this case from the get go is weird. What has been established is that someone did it to two U.S. Senators - motive being a lone nut with a death wish?
Thanks for pointing my mistake about employment of said individual.
