It's never too late to be the person you might have been.

The point of the post was about character - not job opportunities

I agree that its never too late to become the person you might have been, though sometimes and it depends on the person there are some of them, I include myself, that spend their whole lives fighting trying to improve, to be a man of good, but sometimes one feels too overwhelmed with the evil that one is trying to defeat that the opportunity for real change goes by unnoticed. It is as if something is preventing you from setting yourself free.

I'd suggest that you are using the wrong measure of such things. If you tie your worth to the success in changing others - you will be forever doomed to dispair and disappointment. The corruption of spirit that infests the hearts of men, from generation to generation, is no new thing. It is Father's way that we teach by example. To 'be' that which we would hold dear in others. Those of corrupted heart frequently do not have the eyes to see or the ears to hear. There are others that will. It takes longer using Father's way and requires more patience, but it works.
Perhaps this verse could have been written for you
REV 3 10 BECAUSE THOU HAST KEPT THE WORD OF MY PATIENCE I ALSO WILL KEEP THEE FROM THE HOUR OF TEMPTATION WHICH SHALL COME UPON ALL THE WORLD TO TRY THEM THAT DWELL UPON THE EARTH
I was once involved in a court action. The opposing counsel decided to take a cheapshot at my integrity and my attorney jumped to his feet saying, "I have known this man 15 years and have never heard an untruth pass his lips". He knew because of his experience and took note of the fact. In the same fashion I know that Father has not, and will not, abandon us. Judge yourself using Father as the yardstick and not against the corruptions of others. Father's measure is far kinder and much more accurate.

Another way to look at this:
At the end of the day, sleeping with a clean conscience is probably worth more than a bed full of money. They say sometimes the greatest fortunes in life are founded upon the greatest of crimes. Crime tends to produce boogie men. I think we should prefer to sleep not thinking about them. You can run, but, if you choose to hurt others for your own gain, you better hope you can hide as well.
