There is a story told by Gypsies that most haven't heard. When Jesus was on the cross, there were four nails. One for each of his hands and one for the feet. The fourth nail was supposed to go into his heart - but a gypsy stole it. They reason that God has given them license to steal for this 'good' act. Either that or its an excellent example of self serving interepations Along the same lines, I'm sure you all know the story of the boy who cried wolf. The given moral of the story was that if you yell for help falsely, eventually - no one will listen and come to your aid when you really do need it. An alternative interpretation of the moral is Don't tell the same lie twice

Folks around Europe who hated the Gypsies told an opposite story: it was a Gypsy woodworker (or smith) who fashioned the cross (or the nails) and God condemned them to wander endlessly.
